Type 3c Diabetes: Have you ever heard of it?

Have you ever heard of Type 3c Diabetes? I hadn’t either until I joined the diabetes online community and came across people on Instagram like @papayadiabetic and @twotypesofsweet

I linked some excellent educational resources below, but in short, type 3c diabetes is a form of diabetes that results directly from disease of the pancreas. This can come from pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, removal of the pancreas, and many other causes. In many cases, the person living with this form of diabetes relies on insulin just like those of us with type 1. Some use insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors while others use injections and many of them also require pancreatic enzymes to replace exocrine pancreatic function.

Peelz is lucky enough to have some extra sweet customers with Type 3C Diabetes to help keep us educated and aware of this lesser known form of diabetes and we are so grateful for their posts! Of course, we always love to see them showing off their Medtronic, Tandem, and OmniPod insulin pumps decked out with their favorite stickers from Peelz too!

Do you know anyone with Type 3C Diabetes? Had you ever heard of it until now? Let us know!

I’m Type 3c but honestly I didn’t know it was a “thing” before this article. My doctors just say Type 1 because I’m insulin dependent. I had a total pancreatectomy, splenectomy, cholecystectomy, duodenectomy, and partial removal of stomach as well in December 2008,
